We are very excited for you to return to campus – please pay close attention to your email and to the Keep Wes Safe website as communications include important information about changes to the spring semester.  

With the adjustment to spring semester courses, I want to share with you dates that you should update on your calendar/organizer:

Approaching the End of Fall Semester

Hello Class of 2025 – 

If you can believe it, we are in the homestretch of the semester with only two more weeks of classes (ending 12/10) and then reading period (12/11 – 12/14) and finals (12/14 – 12/18). If you have questions about specific course finals, be sure to consult your professor and your course syllabus. The general Wesleyan academic calendar can be found here and the university final exam schedule can be found here. 

It is so important that you continue to work hard to push though these next few weeks. You’ve accomplished so much and you are so close to finishing this semester strong. Be sure to consider all the resources I’ve shared with you throughout the year. Those include but are not limited to:

If you are considering withdrawing from a course, please be sure to talk with your professor and your faculty advisor. As a reminder, the course withdrawal deadline is this Friday 12/3/21. The withdrawal form can be found here.

College of Social Studies (CSS) Info Session

The CSS tutors and students invite you to an Info Session on Wednesday, December 1, from 4:30 p.m. –  5:30 p.m. at Russell House.

Several of the CSS tutors and current students will speak at this session. This meeting will afford you an opportunity to ask questions about the CSS to the tutors and current students.

Please note: If you cannot attend this info session, a second CSS info session is planned for 2/1. Applications for the CSS Class of 2025 will be available on the CSS website on 2/1. More info can be found here.

Study Abroad Session for First-Years & Sophomores

Hosted by the Office of Study Abroad

The Office of Study Abroad is hosting an interactive session for first-years and sophomores (Classes of 2024 and 2025). In this session, you will learn the basics of study abroad at Wes, including affordability and financial aid, sites and kinds of programs, credit transfer, and the benefits of spending a semester or year studying in another country.

Second Half of Fall Semester

Hello, Class of 2025

I hope you had a chance to rest and reboot during fall break. As we enter the second half of the fall semester, continue to utilize resources on campus that can support your success. This includes but is not limited to speaking directly with faculty, meeting with teaching and course assistants and utilizing student academic resources. If you haven’t used any of these resources yet and want assistance figuring out where to begin, schedule an appointment with me to chat or stop by my office hours in North College 202 (listed below).

You are also likely aware that spring course registration has started. Be sure to meet with your faculty advisor to discuss what courses you hope to take in the spring. Your faculty advisor, as well as our Academic Peer Advisors (APAs), can help you map out your course schedule.

Additionally, our APAs will host drop-in hours to assist with course registration on Thursday 11/11 from 4 – 6pm at the Exley tables in front of the fishbowl. If these drop-in hours do not work with your schedule, email the APAs directly at peeradvisors@wesleyan.edu.

Getting Excited for Fall Break!

Fall Break is so close! What a great chance to take a pause and reflect on how much you have accomplished this semester. A few updates to consider as you round out the next few weeks:

  • Winter Session Aid Applications are now open. If you are thinking about taking a Winter Session course, please apply for aid now. Applying for aid does not obligate you to enroll in a class. Applications due 11/3/21.
  • Flu clinics: Wesleyan mandates that all students receive a flu shot by the start of the Spring 2022 semester. Wesleyan offers flu clinics for a limited number of students to schedule an appointment to receive a flu vaccine. If you aren’t able to schedule an appointment on campus, utilize local pharmacies or consider getting a vaccine if you go home for fall break.
  • CAPS Groups: The Office of Counseling & Psychological Support (CAPS) provides lots of support to Wes students. CAPS groups are a great option for students to access therapist support either separately or in addition to individual therapy.

Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) Groups

The office of Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) provides lots of support to Wesleyan students. CAPS groups are a great option for students to access therapist support and can be utilized separately or in addition to individual therapy. Check out the flyers below to learn more about groups focused on QTNB+ & Gender Diverse Folx, Asian American & Pacific Islander students, Women and Men.

Upcoming Dates

Good morning, Class of 2025 –

I hope all is well! It’s been great to interact with many of you at recent major open houses. There are plenty open houses still scheduled if you are interested in learning more about various department majors, minors and certificates. Find the schedule here.

A few dates approaching for you to consider:

  • If you wish withdraw from a 1st quarter class, you must do so prior to 10/15/21 (Please note, this is not the same deadline to withdraw from a full semester course. The full semester course withdrawal date is 12/3/21. The Wesleyan Academic calendar can be found here).
  • Fall Break is quickly approaching (10/23/21 – 10/26/21). Fall Break is a series of days set intentionally in the fall semester to provide rest and reflection following almost two months of classes.
  • Homecoming & Family Weekend is scheduled for 10/29/21 – 10/31/21. You are still welcome and encouraged to attend Homecoming & Family Weekend programs even if you do not plan to have family in town that weekend.

Resources to Consider

Good morning, Class of 2025!

I hope this communication finds you well. Some items that may be of interest to you:

  1. Employment. Interested in obtaining a part-time job? Be sure to utilize Handshake or visit the Gordon Career Center to learn about employment opportunities.
  1. SHAPE: The Office of Support, Healing, Activism, and Prevention Education (SHAPE) has created a series of events in October to raise awareness about dating violence in our community and beyond. See their blog to learn more.
  1. Department Open Houses: Though you will not declare your major until second semester of your sophomore year, some of you may already have an idea of what you want to study. Visiting a department open house can provide a lot of insight into various majors. See the schedule for department open houses that run in October and November here.

I’ve enjoyed meeting with many of you over the past couple of weeks. Don’t forget to check out your class photo. As a reminder, those who visit my office and show me where they are in the photo will get a small takeaway for stopping by. Get that Wes swag!
