Admissions Senior Intern (SI) Application Open

The Office of Admissions seeks applicants for Admission Senior Interns for the 2024-25 academic year.

The SIs are the highest level student leaders in the admission office, as front-facing ambassadors who represent Wesleyan to prospective students and their families. They co-lead in-person/virtual information sessions, speak virtually 1:1 with students, and work on a variety of office projects. It’s a great opportunity for students to hone their interpersonal and public speaking skills, as well as learn about admission and higher education through our professional development sessions. The position is 5-7 hours per week, pays $18/hour, and provides a fantastic professional experience to develop transferrable skills.

International Buddy Program and African Scholars Student Coordinator

We have two opportunities through the Office of International Student Affairs (OISA).

Students continuing their studies at Wes in the Fall 2023 Semester to sign up for our International Buddy Program (IBP) and be matched with an incoming international student. All returning Wesleyan students are eligible to sign up for IBP. The deadline to sign up is next Sunday, May 14th at 11:59 p.m. EST. 

The second opportunity is a current student staff opening to serve as Wesleyan’s first African Scholars Student Coordinator. The student who will be selected for this role will work with OISA professional staff and other campus stakeholders to plan and implement support structures and programming for the inaugural cohort of Wesleyan’s new African Scholars Program, which will be comprised of at least 10 new undergraduate scholarship students from Africa this fall. The deadline to apply in Handshake is this Sunday, May 7th at 11:55 p.m. EST.

Student Academic Resources (SAR) is seeking to hire students to support other students in their academic pursuits.

SAR coordinates programs for intellectual enrichment and academic support with the goal of fostering a community culture that recognizes the relationship between intellectual growth and personal development. The office strives to share information with the campus community, in order to increase awareness and use of appropriate services, with the goal of facilitating academic achievement for all students.

SAR Peer Support Positions include Academic Peer AdvisorsPeer Technology SpecialistsOffice AssistantsGraduate Interns, and NSO Peer Advisors. The Peer Support Positions work as a team, collaborating with other campus departments, in order to enhance student access to resources and supports at Wesleyan.

Teaching Fellow Opportunity – Spring 2023

Wesleyan University + National Education Equity Teaching Fellow

Wesleyan University and the National Education Equity Lab are partnering to offer Wesleyan college courses to Title 1 or Title 1 eligible high schools across the country. During the spring 2023 semester, we will be offering PSYC105 (Introduction to Psychology) composed of digital projects that help students learn about the field of psychology. With your help, students from our nation’s most underserved communities can gain access to a rigorous college course and have the opportunity to earn pre-college credit and build college confidence. As a Wesleyan University and National Education Equity Teaching Fellow you will engage students in synchronous discussions, grade student work, drive student success, and be part of a national community working to advance education equity.

Essential Responsibilities (approximately 10 hours per week)

  • Host weekly 45-minute synchronous discussion sessions via Zoom to enhance students’ engagement with course content, expose them to college-level seminar-style discussions, and help improve their analytical skills.
  • Grade and provide feedback on student work.
  • Participate in weekly course team check-ins to share learnings, successes, and challenges.
  • Answer course content questions, as needed.

Waste Not! Want Not Job Opportunity

Greetings Class of 2025!

I hope this email finds you well. We are heading into April which is a very busy month on all college campuses. Wesleyan has a lot of programs, events and opportunities to offer – be sure to pay attention to information for programs and events sent through the All Students listserv as well as posted on WesNest.

Here are a few upcoming dates and/or events that may be of interest:

  • Pre-RegistrationPre-Registration runs through 4/11. If you have not touched base with your premajor advisor about Fall 2022 courses yet, be sure to reach out. 
  • Fellowships for Graduate Study. Are you interested in graduate school and wondering about opportunities to fund it? Attend an info session on Fellowships for Graduate Study. The first event is Friday 4/1 on Zoom from noon to 1pm (register here). A second in-person offering will follow on Thursday 4/7 from 4:30-5:30pm in Fisk Hall 201. There will be snacks!
  • Student Ombuds. The application for the Student Ombuds program is open. Student Ombuds serve as a peer resource focused on empowering students to successfully navigate the institution and advocate for themselves in moments of conflict (particularly with power dynamics). 
  • Student Leadership Employment Opportunities: The office of Student Academic Resources (SAR) recently posted open leadership positions. Some positions are academic-year, some are summer positions, and some are both. Visit Handshake to learn more. For positions that require an updated resume, be sure to stop by Gordon Career Center for assistance with resume writing, interview skills, and more.

Academic Peer Advisor

APAs are a resource to students during Orientation regarding the course registration process, and throughout the year they provide support related to improving academic skills and Wes student systems, such as WesPortal and Moodle.

Peer Technology Specialist

Peer Technology Specialists help Wes students to learn how to use digital tools like dictation, text-to-speech, and Google calendar to increase productivity and improve their learning strategies.

NSO Peer Advisor

New Student Orientation (NSO) Peer Advisors work during NSO to assist incoming students with schedule planning, preparation for faculty advisor meetings, and support participation in other Orientation activities.
